Itĭaniel Craig has famously said Bond movie Quantum of Solace suffered because the script was not ready before the strike was called. The shows that were impacted included 30 Rock, Gossip Girl, Big Bang Theory, Breaking Bad, the CSI franchise, Friday Night Lights, House, Prison Break and The Office US. The 2007-8 strike lasted for more than three months and was estimated to have cost the Los Angeles economy $US2.5 billion. If they or other guilds such as cinematographers or the transport unions decided to join the strike action, it would mean an immediate cessation of almost all productions currently filming. The actors union (SAG-AFTR) and the directors union (DGA) are currently also in negotiations with the studios with a deadline of June 30, and are making similar demands especially in terms of residual payments from streaming projects. The studios, represented through the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP), have been preparing for a strike for weeks, which included hustling to make sure scripts for upcoming projects were all turned in. Scripted shows and movies work far in advance of their premiere dates so if the strike is short, audiences may not ever notice a difference in what makes it onto screens. While the effect is more readily apparent on American audiences, it may take a while for the flow-on impact of the strike to be felt by Australian viewers. ![]() Jon Stewart has also cancelled a promotional event for his Apple TV+ series The Problem with Jon Stewart, which was due to take place next Monday.Īctor Frances Fisher on the picket line in Los Angeles this week. Author and screenwriter Neil Gaiman tweeted that while season two of Amazon Prime Video series Good Omens has wrapped, he won’t be able to promote the series. Strike rules also prohibit writers from doing promotional appearances at either film festival or “for your consideration” events. Even with the scripts turned in, no additional writing on any of those projects by WGA members can now happen. There are several big-budget productions filming right now, including the second seasons of House of the Dragon and The Rings of Power, and the Marvel movie Captain America: New World Order. The strike means all writing work has been stopped by members of the WGA, which includes not just the initial script but any on-set rewrites and tweaks and any lines that might be written for the post-production process such as for audio dialogue replacement. The deadline for negotiations between the WGA and the studios lapsed yesterday, which plunged the industry into strike action, which had been approved by 97.9 per cent of voting members last month in the event a deal couldn’t be struck. The Yellowjackets writers room has been suspended while the strike is on.
